Common Cold & Flu

An upper respiratory track (UTI) infection caused due to a virus, is generally termed as Common Cold. Typically, common cold tends to effects children more than adults, though the latter also have their share of common colds infections. Conventional medicine guarantees no failsafe means of preventing the viral infection and no way to cure it, except finding relief from the symptoms. Cold has a lifecycle of about a week, and can be accompanied by sore throat and cough. Contrary to flu, cold does not generally cause high fever beyond 102°F.

 

Symptoms of common cold:

The symptoms of cold can be one or all of the aforementioned, sneezing, nasal congestion, sore throat, wet cough, slight fever, headache, exhaustion, fatigue.
Causes of cold:

Colds are transmitted through the air, when a person infected with a cold, coughs, and sneezes or even encounters another individual, who the germs are transferred on through indirect contact. The source of transmission in generally, is the nose and mouth. Low immunity may increase one's chances of catching a cold. The rhinovirus is one of the most common causes of common cold.

Treatment of Common Cold:

Common cold is believed to have a lifecycle of one to two weeks, after which it naturally subsides. The conventional forms of medicine or modern medicine, target at relieving the symptoms, and do not deal with curing cold or prevent its reoccurrences. Many people use home remedies like steam inhalation to relief these symptoms as well.
Many people resort to over-the-counter medications that are available to treat common cold symptoms, such as,
* Decongestants.
* Antihistamines.
* Cough suppressants.
* Pain relievers.

Each having a bundle of side effects, and intake restrictions. It is advisable to read the label and consult a physician before self-medication for common cold.
